So, yes, I will be talking about design and performance of transport airships, basics
on design and insights in performance.
A few words on my person.
So I'm an aeronautical engineer and I always like switch for and back between lighter than
and heavier than air.
So my working life was not a straight line.
It was like going zigzag and seeing both sides of the coin.
And I work for different airship companies like Zeppelin and Cargolifter, LTA Aerostructures
in Canada and also Equizot in Spain.
And so now I'm with the German Aerospace Center.
I'm a safety manager in the UAS test center in Magdeburg-Kochstedt and there I'm working
on the civil airport as a safety manager, but also for drone operations as a safety
manager.
I will be talking about Aerarium Luftschiffstechnik.
So I'm here on behalf of Aerarium Airship Basics, how operations have an impact on design performance.
This is my favorite subject.
And I will give a short summary.
So first of all, what's Aerarium Luftschiffstechnik?
It's a registered nonprofit association to promote lighter than air technology.
We're doing LTA projects with the Technical University Berlin since 1997.
And by the way, donations to Aerarium EV are tax exempt.
Hint, hint.
So if you have some pocket money left, we can give you a quitton.
Sleep.
Anyway.
So we have two interest groups or work groups at Aerarium.
One is the working group DELEC that we are looking at a benchmark airship that actually
has been flown and operated commercially via the 120 Bodensee.
So we have the idea of keeping the general structural concept, downsize it from 20 tons
to 15 tons, use contemporary airworthy materials and components off the shelf.
And to improve the propulsion concept for better maneuverability because we cannot
afford for like 200 ground crew.
So in the end, the idea is to compile a solid business case, business model based on the
NASA TRL process to found the airship owner cooperative DELEC on the basis of said business
case and to fly 15 tons commuter category near equilibrium rigid airship prototype by
2023 because this was last year we said, okay, 10 years should be enough.
So we're not thinking about two years, three years or five years, but we need to do a lot
of research before we can start the actual industrialization.
The other interest group is on model airships.
So we are doing model airship regatta since 2004 in collaboration with the German Aerospace
Society and since 2012 in collaboration with the Airship Association and since 2017 within
the FAIC regime.
So FAI is the Federation Aeronautique International, it's the World Air Sports Federation.
They have an aeromodeling commission and I'm part of the Bureau of this commission to promote
the sporting code for model airships.
So we did open international contest in Berlin and Bedford, Friedrichshafen and Mumbai and
hopefully soon in the USA and in Canada.
By the way, the next one will be in scope of the Delta S conference in Mumbai next year.
So to get to give you an impression on such a venue in such an event in Friedrichshafen.
But to airship basics.
